Volunteer Opportunity: Tinker Tank Facilitator – Pacific Science Center

We have a volunteer opportunity called Tinker Tank, which I think is an excellent fit for anyone who loves Science, teaching, engineering, STEM, or anyone who is interested in the program!

A Tinker Tank Facilitator is a role that is integral to a positive guest experience here at Pacific Science Center. Tinker Tank Facilitators help engage with guests in our hands-on design space! It is a space for guests to explore and experiment with aerodynamics, gravity walls, cardboard amusement parks, Keva blocks, electrical circuits, and much, much more! The activities are constantly changing, so there’s always something new to explore!

Purpose/ Summary: To facilitate and promote educational interactions between floor staff or volunteers and Pacific Science Center guests that inspire a lifelong interest in science, math and technology, especially related to the systems, materials, and content related to workshop programs. This role works with the Science Interpretation team to support employees and volunteers in the Science Interpretation and Discovery Corps Programs to deliver consistent, excellent science interpretation. Interpretive Science Educator

Purpose: The Interpretive Science Educator engages directly with guests to facilitate their interaction with our innovative exhibits and to create a positive and memorable experience at Pacific Science Center

Summary: Interpretive Science Educators create a positive and memorable experience for guests by sharing hands-on and engaging educational activities with large and small groups as well as individual guests. The educators interpret exhibits and scientific concepts by creating opportunities for guest discovery and guide the guest experience with discussion and exploration, with the goal of inspiring a lifelong interest in science, math and technology.

Summary:
The Early Childhood Educator presents nature-based, early learning programming at Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center, including Polliwog Preschool, Tadpole Tots program, camp programs and other on-site and outreach programs as needed. Non-teaching time is directed towards program administrative and curricular projects as assigned.

Staff training and support: Work with Mercer Slough Early Childhood Education Coordinator to ensure ongoing training, development and support systems are in place for PreK education staff.

Summary: Each Outreach Education Teacher presents programming at elementary schools, middle schools, community centers and preschools in the Seattle area by presenting assemblies, setting up hands-on exhibit areas, teaching classroom lessons and providing after school programming. Part time teachers are responsible for some logistical aspects of programming, and may be asked to help with other administrative and curricular projects as interest and need dictates.
