Were you involved in the K-12 tutoring or mentoring at the UW? If so, we encourage you to apply!

UW Pipeline Project and Dream Project Ameri­Corps mem­bers will recruit and support students on cam­pus involved in K-12 tutoring and college access mentoring. Our programs focus on educating UW students through transformational community experiences, and working with K-12 educators to help prepare the college students of tomorrow. The AmeriCorps team will conduct outreach to increase participation in our programs, support tutors and mentors on campus, and assist staff with programs related to educational equity. AmeriCorps members will serve from September 1st, 2017-July 15th, 2018.

Job Opportunity: Environmental Education Program Coordinator AmeriCorps Position – Seattle Audubon

This project will provide science-based environmental education in Seattle Public Elementary Schools, particularly schools with a high percentage of students who qualify for the free and reduced-priced meals program. In order to provide these programs, at no cost to students and schools, Seattle Audubon relies on volunteers whom we train as facilitators and docents. With the support of an AmeriCorps Member, we will be able to bolster our volunteer recruitment and training efforts, update and enhance environmental education materials, and provide high quality environmental education to Seattle Public School students. The Member will also assist with recruitment, planning, and preparation for the teen program, Young Birders. Young Birders provides a robust learning community for teen birders and fosters meaningful personal relationships amongst teen members. Young Birders meet monthly to learn about birds and conservation issues, go on bi-monthly birding field trips, and participate in service and citizen science projects. Additionally, the Member will serve with staff and volunteers to create and distribute educational materials. The AmeriCorps Member will help strengthen relationships with the community through place-based environmental education programs and manage volunteers through recruitment, training, and scheduling. This position is contingent on funding.

Director of Education and Camps: Oversees school field studies based on NGSS standards and Science Exploration Camps providing local youth with opportunities to experience the outdoors in a safe, fun, nurturing and engaging setting, and to provide academic, STEM education. Candidates must have a degree in education, environmental education, or a natural science with good education experience, as well as strong camp administration experience. Salary is commensurate with experience. Health Insurance, 401-K retirement, vacations and holidays are included.

Education and Camp Coordinator: 35-week program beginning ASAP and ending October 21, 2016. The Coordinator will assist with providing local youth with opportunities to experience the outdoors in a safe, fun, nurturing and engaging setting, and to provide academic, STEM education. Activities include school field studies, school residential field studies, and day and residential Spring, Summer and Fall Science Exploration Camps. AmeriCorps position with Education Award of $4,380, stipend of $300/week, health and dental insurance and shared housing available.

Naturalists/Environmental Educators: 2 positions for a 35-week program beginning ASAP and ending October 21, 2016, and two additional Educators for a 15-week program beginning May 2, 2016 and ending August 12, 2016. Activities include school field studies, school residential field studies, and day and residential Spring, Summer and Fall Science Exploration Camps. AmeriCorps position with an Education Award of $2,182-$4,380 depending on weeks of service, a stipend of $250/week for the 35-week term and $200/week for the 9-15 week term, health and dental insurance for the 35-week program, and shared, on-site housing.

Counselors: 6 positions for a 9-10-week Summer Science Exploration Camp beginning by June 13, 2016 and ending August 5, 2016, with a training week to be scheduled in advance. Activities include hands-on discovery activities, exploration, travel to Lake Tahoe, hiking, and recreational activities. AmeriCorps position with an Education Award of $1,212 and a stipend of $150/week.

Visitor Center Hosts: 2 positions for a flexible time period, but beginning by May 2, 2016 and ending not before August 19, 2016. This Interpretive position will encourage understanding, appreciation and appropriate use of the natural, cultural and historical resources of the Galena Canyon Area and the Mount Rose Scenic Byway. AmeriCorps position with a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award and a stipend.

Internship Opportunity: Education Program Intern – The Great Basin Institute and BLM Elko California Trail Interpretive Center

The Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the BLM Elko California Trail Interpretive Center (Center), is recruiting an Education Program Intern to serve as part of our AmeriCorps program. The mission of the California Trail Center is to interpret the California Trail experience, its related themes, and provide educational and cultural enrichment to the general public. Through interpretation the Trail Center will contribute to the appreciation and preservation of historic and cultural sites and, by forging strong community partnerships, enhance sustainable tourism in the region. This position is seeking a youth participant who is age 25 or younger on the first day of the internship. More specifically, it is expected that the Education Program Intern will engage in the following types of direct service activities:
• support curriculum development with local teachers by conducting research and providing resources to teachers;
• assist Center staff and teachers in preparing for a pilot of new curriculum programs by making program arrangements and helping to facilitate new education programs;
• deliver education programs to school audiences as needed and will participate in education program evaluation
• develop distance learning lesson plans and short videos; and
• serve an instrumental role in building relationships with local school audiences through outreach and marketing of new curriculum programs and education-related projects.
