The City of Seattle’s Human Services Department (HSD) is seeking experienced teachers in Math (Calculus) and Science (Chemistry) to join the Upward Bound Summer Academy teaching staff.  This unique program prepares high school students for post-secondary higher education by giving students the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to earn a two- or four-year college or technical degree.

While the dates of the formal Upward Bound Program run from June 27, 2016 through August 5, 2016, the start date for teachers begins June 1 to allow flexible hours for syllabus planning (4 hours per assigned subject) and also includes two Saturday mornings between June 1-25 for team planning.  The services are provided on campus at Seattle University.

The program serves high school students grades 9-12 from Garfield, Rainier Beach and Chief Sealth High Schools who are from low income families and/or first generation in their family to be college bound. In support of academic achievement, goal setting, and career exploration instructors will offer classes that promote college readiness and retrieval credit classes to inspire learning.  Teachers are needed for Language Arts, Mathematics (Calculus) and Chemistry.
