Camp Staff Job Duties

  • Responsible to the Camp Director
  • Supervises up to 20 campers
  • Works with a team to plan, prepare, teach and evaluate camp programming
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of campers serve
  • Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations
  • Appropriately model behavior and use positive behavior-management techniques
  • Conducts day trips, overnight trips, and canoeing trips (most positions)
  • Provides first aid
  • Cleans and maintains the camp buildings, campus, and equipment

Camp Staff Qualifications

  • Availability to work these dates is required (accommodation may be made for school commitments):
    • Ten-day training:  Weekdays from June 20 – July 1, 8AM – 5:30PM plus one overnight
    • Seven-week camp:  Weekdays from July 5 – August 19, 8AM – 5:30PM plus up to 5 overnights
  • First Aid and CPR certification required by June 20, 2016
  • Lifeguard and Wilderness First Aid certifications very beneficial
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time; ability to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to work outside in heat, humidity and rain; tolerate ticks, poison ivy, thorns, and mud
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp or outdoor setting
  • Coursework and knowledge in ecology, natural history or outdoor education preferred
  • Enthusiasm for nature, the environment, and children
  • Good communication skills
