Overview
Now in its second century, Audubon is dedicated to protecting birds and other wildlife and the habitat that supports them. Audubon’s mission is engaging people in bird conservation on a hemispheric scale through science, policy, education and on-the-ground conservation action.  By mobilizing and aligning its network of Chapters, Centers, State and Important Bird Area programs in the four major migratory flyways in the Americas, the organization will bring the full power of Audubon to bear on protecting common and threatened bird species and the critical habitat they need to survive. What defines Audubon’s unique value is a powerful grassroots network of nearly 500 local chapters, 23 state offices, 43 Audubon Centers, Important Bird Area Programs in 46 states, and 700 staff across the country.  Audubon is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The Green Mountain Audubon Center in Huntington, Vermont provides natural science education for schools, families, adults, teachers, and the general public. The Center also offers a summer day camp program for children ages 3 to 13.  Audubon education programs provide people with direct experiences in nature. Our programs are outdoors, science-based, interactive, and lead participants to take action to help protect birds, other wildlife, and their habitats. The Center also conducts scientific research in the form of avian monitoring and is a land management demonstration site for the public.

Position Summary
The Green Mountain Audubon Center in Huntington seeks experienced teachers, environmental educators, and naturalists to work in a nature day camp setting.  The Summer Naturalist will work with 3- to 13-year-old children as they explore the forests, brooks, meadows, and ponds on the Center’s 255 acres.  Each week of camp focuses on a different theme and all campers get the chance to search for wildlife, make crafts, go on hikes, play games, and hone their nature awareness skills.  The Summer Naturalists will be equally comfortable teaching 3- to 5-year olds at Preschool Nature Camp as well as 6- to 13-year olds at Ecology Day Camp.

The Summer Naturalist will be responsible for teaching outdoor programs, developing camp activities and curriculum, and working effectively as part of a dynamic camp team.  Audubon will challenge you to enhance your teaching and mentoring skills while encouraging you to share the wonder of exploring the most magical places at Audubon.

Camp runs for 8 weeks, including two overnights on June 16th and July 7th, 2016.  There are five days of paid professional development and naturalist training prior to the start of camp.  This is a full-time, seasonal opportunity with an estimated 40 hour work week. Compensation is dependent on experience.
