This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 8 – 10 hours per week) seasonal Educational Program Assistant 1 position for Sea Grant’s Hatfield Marine Science Visitor Center at Oregon State University (OSU) located in Newport Oregon.
The Hatfield Marine Science Visitor Center is a museum/aquarium open to the public. It is through this facility that many of the Sea Grant Extension marine education programs are delivered. A wide variety of workshops, field trips, and short courses are offered for the public, school teachers, K-12 students, and other youth groups.
Education Program Assistants present marine science labs and programs for the K-12 school audience, other youth and family groups. This position carries out and assists with a variety of field trips, labs, youth programs, and provides other education assistance as needed.
The work of this position is carried out on a varying schedule and on an as-needed basis during the busy season (Mid March- Mid August).
70% Preparation and presentation of laboratory and field programs for school groups, other youth groups, and families as needed.
25% Cleaning and maintenance of labs and equipment and the appropriate care and use of marine animals associated with education programs.
5% Attend staff meetings, trainings and workshops.
