Fortson 4-H Center is looking for a seasonal Environmental Educator for our Spring season (with the opportunity to continue in the Fall season). Our Spring season currently runs February – May; Fall currently runs August – November. Schools come to our center during the school year for 1, 2 or 3 day field studies that focus on up to 4 class areas: Ecology, Living History, Team Building and Outdoor Skills. Located in Hampton, GA, live and work just 30 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and Georgia’s major natural & man-made attractions, while still being nestled away on 77 acres of quiet forest!
PRIMARY DUTIES: Teach 2-hour interdisciplinary, research-based environmental and outdoor education classes to grades K-12. Class subjects focus on 4 areas: Ecology, Living History, Team Building and Outdoor Skills.
SECONDARY DUTIES: Curriculum development, provide leadership to school groups participating in the program, animal husbandry, maintain teaching laboratories, assist with facilities and grounds maintenance and other duties as assigned. The typical workweek is flexible – some night and weekend work may be required. Some travel to teach at other sites may be required. Extensive training in environmental education is provided upon employment. Qualifications
EDUCATION: A Bachelor or Associate degree in Education, Natural Science, Biology, Forestry, Environmental Education, Outdoor Education or related field preferred.
PERSONAL TRAITS: Commitment, genuine interest in children, dynamic personality, well-developed communication skills, creativity and leadership ability. Extensive training in environmental education is provided upon employment.
Salary: $8.95/hr (avg. 30+ hours per week). Fully furnished, on-site housing available for $40/week. Meals available for $2.50/meal.
