If you would find it useful for your learning to take a writing course linked to a lecture, read on for information about some lecture/writing link pairs you might be interested in for winter quarter. UW research and end of course student evaluations consistently show that students who take both a lecture and a linked writing class find their learning and performance in both are enhanced.
Remember that you can use IWP classes (English 197, 198, 199, 297, 298 or 299) toward the “Composition” requirement (which you’re probably doing this quarter for English 198) or toward the “W” (additional writing) requirement. You can take up to three IWP classes while you’re at UW. The number of the IWP course matches the numbering of the lecture, so writing links with 100-level lectures are numbered 197, 198 or 199, and writing links with lectures at the 200-level and above are numbered 297, 298 and 299. This doesn’t mean the 200-level writing courses are more demanding than the 100 level writing courses. If you’re eligible for and interested in the lecture, then the link is appropriate for you.
