Description: NorthWoods Stewardship Center is a non-profit organization located on a 1500 acre campus in East Charleston, VT. Our mission is to ‘connect people and place through science, education and action.’ The Education and Outdoor Recreation Instructor will assist the Education Director as they create, facilitate, and promote school programs and summer camps that focus on environmental education and outdoor recreation. Position includes organizing and leading multiple week-long canoe trips, facilitating team-building and challenge programs on the ropes course, and instructing hands-on environmental education programs to students of all ages. The position will also include springtime stewardship projects, including tree planting and habitat restoration. Overnight and occasional weekend hours are required throughout the summer. The qualified applicant will have a positive attitude, high energy, exhibit patience and flexibility and excellent communication and leadership skills, and demonstrate experience leading groups of young adults in an outdoor setting. Applicants must have a commitment to working with youth in the outdoors, and possess a strong sense of stewardship of the natural environment.
Compensation: AmeriCorps Position is funded through NorthWoods and the AmeriCorps Northeast Kingdom Initiative. $6,700 salary for 900 service hours to be completed from start date (Between April April 15 and May 15) to end date (approx. August 31). Paid every two weeks. Quarter time positions (450 hrs) available with later start date.
Educational Award: AmeriCorps members receive an educational award upon completion of service of approximately $2,822 (for 900 service hours) that can be applied to existing school loans, or future school/enrichment opportunities.
